MYS Clinic Now Open
MYS Clinic Now Open in Manvel TX
The clinic has gotten off the ground and is making inroads in school districts, with EAPs, and increasing client load weekly. We are looking toward adding nursing services as we are in a rural area and being a service in any way we can to the community.
Clients love the attitude of MYS, being proactive, positive, and strengths-based. It is a fresh, new way of counseling that is working for all ages and most conditions. Clients take a baseline assessment of emotion-related symptoms when they make their appointment, then continue as they go through sessions, giving us some great data.
Four More Clinics Targeted for 2020
MYS is targeting 4 more clinics in 2020: New Orleans, Dallas, Houston, and in Virginia but not stopping there!
If you want to partner a clinic get in touch with Randy Guttenberger or Rick Ertell by using our contact us form. MYS provides the program, administrative side, and growth ideas for success.

HB 18 - MYCS School Mental Health Training Can Help
by Becky Kemp, Title I School Counselor
With the signing of HB 18, Texas has put more of an emphasis on increasing mental health training for teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and other school staff. MYCS can help with training! We see many programs developed for teachers/staff to deliver to students in hopes they will see improvement in student behaviors.
What if we focus on improving the ability of all staff and students to manage: problems, behaviors, relationships, communication, and their own mental health?
We can teach your staff how to work through and deal with issues they are having with themselves, their mate, their children, and their co-workers. Once they begin to understand how we are all wired differently and how we can manage our personality traits in conjunction with communicating with others in their particular style, the campus becomes more inviting.
MYCS for Schools can provide a comprehensive program for all school staff and students to help improve relationships on campus. Students often do not realize that when they have an emotion, it is linked to a natural reaction from an alert in their brain.
Once they learn how their brain works and why they are reacting the way they do, we teach them new ways to train their brain to get out of that unhealthy loop of thought and into a healthy loop. The program is very easy to understand and the students quickly grasp the concepts to begin reframing their thoughts.
MYCS for Schools can provide a comprehensive program for all school staff and students to help improve relationships on campus.

Managing Your Crazy® Personal Development Program Overview
Counseling/Coaching Training Summary
There are three key separate parts that work together providing insights in guiding a person to gaining answers, achieve healthier self-awareness and thinking, healing, establishing self-worth, confidence moving forward, and improving relationships.
These three areas are
-
Understanding how the brain generates (reactionary) thoughts and emotions subconsciously and how to take charge of those with conscious mind (cognitive) thinking.
-
Understanding how personality dynamics provide hard wired filters and magnify those subconscious thoughts and emotions.
-
Understanding how, when, where, and why our instinctive thoughts and emotions are there, and more importantly how to manage them and convert them to realize our cognitive potential and improve our relationships.
General Counseling Session Outline
Ideally, in most cases, you will be able to provide these insights in five hours that can be broken into two 2-hour sessions and one 1-hour session. The two hour sessions should be within a week of each other for continuity. Feel free to deliver them in any combination you like, even up to six 45-minute sessions.
Critical: Understanding the Personality Dynamics
The most complex portion is understanding the personality dynamics because there are so many variables. This is a most critical area to grasp because
a) We cannot escape these hardwired filters,
b) Understanding how a client’s thought patterns and motivations work gives the counselor a great understanding of how to communicate to the client and how to discern the way the client is communicating back their needs and perceptions.
Once you gain this expertise you will be able to phrase concepts in clear ways which clients can grasp improving their trust with you that you ‘get them,’ and be able to guide them to reshape their expectations and perceptions in a transference giving them control and ownership of their thoughts and emotions.
Understanding how a client’s thought patterns and motivations work gives the counselor a great understanding of how to communicate to the client and how to discern the way the client is communicating back their needs and perceptions.

MYCS Success in Practice

Helping Bring Clarity to Life...
Using MYCS in therapy has been amazing! I am certified in many programs and have over 20 years of counseling experience. I have never seen anything that works as well as MYCS—or as quickly. I have used it with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use issues and with all ages 6 and up. Just going over the Book (Tab one) in the binder has clients having epiphanies and seeing themselves as never before.
Once we get into the assessments, they really start to understand themselves and why they have the issues they are coming to therapy to address.
As the client and I delve deeper to find their core emotional wound, their whole life begins to come into clarity. Then when we get to the workbook amazing things happen. They find out why they have done things their whole life and what they can do to change this and become more positive and happier. This happens in only a few sessions and can pay a lifetime of benefits to the client.
Out of all the programs I have studied—and techniques I have learned— MYCS is the easiest to implement and has had the most profound effects for my clients. I love the fact that it is based in neuroscience and truly affects a change in the brain of the client in positive ways.
I tell patients if you take medication it changes your brain—but through MYCS we can make positive change without medication. This gets their attention and they respond with excitement and enthusiasm. Once they see results my clients are MYCS advocates for life!
In using MYCS with clients and in groups, I’ve discovered so many gems that, on their own, are life changing for clients. As a program, these gems have revolutionized my practice, my daily life, and even my worldview.
I have used the Managing Your Crazy integrated neuroscience techniques in therapy with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use issues and with all ages 6 and up.

Rethinking Therapy
Rethinking Therapy
by Lydia Giordano, LPC, LCDC
I was trained to be a therapist. I have multiple licenses to prove that I know the methods and can deliver them. But Managing Your Crazy Self! is causing me to rethink therapy! What should I and what can I provide to my client? What does empathy look like?
My training tells me to guide the client to self discovery, and to do that I have to ask a lot of probing questions. With MYCS we question, and we ask for some detail, but the probing questions that often cause clients to re-experience painful memories are not only unnecessary, but hinder the process!
Even the name, Managing Your Crazy Self, has therapists rethinking! I was concerned that the name would cause clients to feel labeled or negative, but I’ve found the opposite to be true! Realizing that we all have a part of our brain that can make us feel Crazy is a relief! They’re not alone! They just need to learn to manage it, and that, too, is fantastic news!
In using MYCS with clients and in groups, I’ve discovered so many gems that, on their own, are life changing for clients. As a program, these gems have revolutionized my practice, my daily life, and even my worldview.
I will admit, it’s not easy to get out of old habits. Diving into a client’s story when they open up is still too easy a mistake. Assuming that a client isn’t a good fit for MYCS because their condition is too severe, or too simple, is another mistake.
My focus now is one of client empowerment...to control the mind, manage the emotions, succeed, have positive relationships, grow self-esteem, and be their true self. No longer am I simply hopeful to facilitate improvement gradually. I know that change comes quickly when the client understands their brain wiring, trusts our instruction, and implements MYCS techniques! The brain learns quickly and change remains. My goal of helping clients heal and move forward is faster and more enduring than we ever believed possible with MYCS!
The MYCS Difference:
Encourages therapists to acknowledge the problem, but help the client feel truly known.
Therapists create trust and walk with clients through solutions.
MYCS is a neuroscience model. Disease is dis-ease. MYCS trained therapists believe in the client’s power to manage their minds.
MYCS ENCOURAGES therapists to acknowledge the problem but that to solve it we have to use the system to help the client feel truly known, empower them and then heal their core emotional wound.
CLASSICAL TRAINING says “to address the presenting problem.”
USING MYCS WE CREATE TRUST, we show clients they are truly known, we don’t keep secrets from them (psychoeducation), and we walk them though solutions at their own pace, showing them their successes along the way for greater buy-in.
CLASSICAL TRAINING says “don’t give solutions to clients;” it will either make them dependent or alienate them.
MYCS IS A NEUROSCIENCE MODEL. It regards disease as lack of ease. When we see clients as whole (not broken or diseased) but needing education in managing their minds, we believe in the client’s power over themselves. And when we believe it, they can too. I’ve found my clients to be very receptive to this idea. They don’t like feeling out of control and want us to show them the way.
CLASSICAL TRAINING teaches us to address clients with a disease model perspective.
In using MYCS with clients and in groups, I’ve discovered so many gems that, on their own, are life changing for clients. As a program, these gems have revolutionized my practice, my daily life, and even my worldview.
My focus now is one of client empowerment...to control the mind, manage the emotions, succeed, have positive relationships, grow self-esteem, and be their true self. No longer am I simply hopeful to facilitate improvement gradually.

Meet Randy Guttenberger, Integrated Neuroscience Modality 2019 Conference Host
Managing Your Crazy Theory is based on the book, Managing Your Crazy Self!, written by Randy Guttenberger, our conference host.
Randy has spent the past 35 years honing his theory, and when validating it with various counselors the response was immediate:
“You have to teach this at the national conference!” They had never seen anything like it before!
Randy has synchronized multiple theories into a viable, effective, and painless modality! His background in corporate coaching showed him how to use brevity and positivity to get to the heart of the problem and keep clients engaged and away from re-experiencing past trauma.
Randy has many gifts, but one is an ability to reach inside people and make them feel known, and that they are ‘ok’ being their authentic selves. He uses humor and frankness to teach us how to pinpoint areas needing change and inspiration.
In his spare time, Randy enjoys traveling, golf, fishing, and music (he plays several instruments).
Randy has a B.B.A. in Finance from Stephen F Austin State University.
